I was privileged to visit my home city, Edinburgh, Scotland, for a few days to catch up with family, having not been home for seven years. Though I made my life in England following my family, and this is now where I call home, I do not disregard my birthplace as a distant memory. I was thrilled to revisit the places I was familiar with and reminisce about the spots where I grew up, even those that are naturally no longer there.
The streets of Edinburgh are still beautiful, and the weather, of course, remains true to form, delivering practically all the seasons in one day! Like many cities, it progresses; many new buildings have been erected and new supermarkets now grace the areas where I played as a child.
I met my big sister for the first time in seven years. She had hardly changed and was still the same person I knew before I left. She had planned a well-organized agenda for us over the four days, and I wasn’t bored for a moment. I finally saw the new tram system, which was underway before I left. It took a long time to construct, but it was worth it, and I even had the pleasure of riding on them.
As we traveled around Edinburgh, mainly on buses, I started to remember most things. Edinburgh Castle was still as beautiful as I recalled, Princes Street Gardens were full of beautiful flowers, and the famous shops continue to attract millions of visitors yearly. The city was just as beautiful as I had remembered.
I visited several family members, and we even went to a club to enjoy a wee drink—a very nice evening. I was also able to sample some traditional Scottish foods that we don’t get here in England.
The trip was a success. I loved meeting up with the people I care about and reconnecting with my roots.

Glad you managed a trip back to where you came from Billy. I have not been back to Edinburgh since 2008. While not my home, it is the home of my ancestors. Have a great Wednesday. Allan
