A devoted mum to three young, noisy kids,
With no true support, she was working alone.
There simply weren't enough days or enough hours,
Nor even a moment for a good, heartfelt moan.
She was just a young girl herself, barely a woman,
When she first carried and bore her first child,
A shy, quiet girl, known for her innocence,
A soul never known for being reckless or wild.
Her innocence was lost at thirteen years old,
A moment not satisfied with just a quick kiss;
The sudden rush of passion tragically overtook her,
And the long weight of responsibility was a miss.
She was fortunate to have her own mother nearby,
A steady rock, in person or on the end of the phone.
"Inexperienced," her mum called the situation sadly,
But the unchangeable seeds had already been sown.
The child's father deserted her life completely
As soon as he learned the truth—he vanished out of sight;
He disappeared entirely, leaving her to fend alone;
She had no choice but to struggle and go without.
But Jessica loved her three precious children fiercely,
And tirelessly tried her absolute level best.
She was a single mum battling on state benefits,
Facing a stressful, constant means test at every turn.
She had no partner to help her in her young life,
She struggled with exhaustion every single day,
But she accepted that this was her life from now on,
A difficult path that was undeniably here to stay.
She often reflected on the years she'd left behind,
Quietly dreaming of what her life could have been,
But she would never, ever trade her chosen lifestyle,
Or wish for the presence of the fathers her children had never seen.
She looked at her growing kids with immense pride now,
As they flourished, happy, strong, and content.
It had been hard, unrelenting, exhausting work at the start,
But to her loving heart, they were all heaven sent.
