Do you remember those days gone by,
When they stretched out long, and time wouldn't fly?
Carefree moments with no need for pretence,
Feeling young and bursting with confidence.
The brilliant sun blinding your very soul,
The scent of bonfires and blackened barbecue coal.
Never, it seemed, having a truly horrid day,
Loving life intensely, come what may.
Focused only on your bright, simple, younger life,
Before the coming turmoil, the pressure, and the strife.
Friends would arrive and always stay for a while,
Making every single day a moment to remember and smile.
Laughing at every innocent, small thing,
Where bees are loudly buzzing and the happy birds sing.
Summer days filled with endless fun,
Playing long games of football beneath the hot sun.
No threatening enemy to make you scared,
Just fresh, warm cakes and scones carefully prepared.
Plenty of food laid out, and small stomachs always full,
Enjoying those easy times you had at school.
The very best friend you had always had four legs,
Following you everywhere you went, sitting patiently and begging.
Those were the precious days I will never forget,
When times were happy, and you had absolutely nothing to fret.
