My Poetry THE ARACHNID AND ME
My Poetry THE ARACHNID AND ME
There was a massive spider,
Crawling boldly on my floor;
Couldn't quite catch the blighter
To put outside the door!
Every day my strained eyes were peeled,
Hoping the hairy thing would show;
Not on the walls, not in a corner—
Where the heck did it go?

Open windows are needed sometimes
On a hot, muggy summer night,
But creatures from the great outside
Scamper relentlessly toward the light.
Giant moths fly in a frantic tune,
Dive-bombing by the very second,
With no care for anything in their path,
Or the rolled-up newspaper they never reckoned!

Still, the frantic search is on,
For my eight-legged, scary housemate;
Where in the devil did it run to?
Is it waiting patiently for its fate?
Scanning the floor, then the high walls—
Still, it does not appear, the sneaky pest;
The mere thought of it still in my house
Is putting my heart truly to the test.

Our eight-legged, furry friends
Have no idea how they cause such panic;
A grown man in his mid-years,
Distraught and all too manic.
Just when the thought is out of your mind,
In the corner of your eye you suddenly see
Your cheeky friend running across the wooden floor—
So fast, and still perfectly free!

Deciding what action I must quickly take—
Whether to stand frozen still or turn and run?
Will I attempt the humane, gentle thing?
Or grab the nearest object like a makeshift gun!
Panic instantly comes flooding over me,
As I stand completely rigid, in a frozen state;
Then the spider begins to make its quick final dash,
And with that action, it seals its fate.

I slam the clear glass cup right over him,
Hoping with all my might he will stay put;
"Goodbye, Mr. Spider, it's been real,"
"It's high time that you were oot!"
