My Poetry. What I leave to you.

My Poetry. What I leave to you.
I would ask you now: why did you desert me
when I was a vulnerable child?
You gave me no affection, no guiding feelings,
leaving me hardened and running wild.

Where were you when I desperately needed you,
in the confusion of my early youth?
Did my existence never cross your thoughts?
You know I am speaking the honest truth.

Did you assign me to a 'family'
who never knew the meaning of true care?
All they delivered was relentless torture,
leaving my spirit constantly stripped bare.
Why did you claim you were utterly blind,
when I know all the time you could truly see?
Then you took a part of your own life's fabric,
but you never once offered a piece to me.

Tell me: will you ever truly come to me,
and allow me to be whole, to be someone true?
Or will you always evade my searching soul,
a shadow I chase all my life through?

I see the very essence of you all around me,
in the kindness of many people I know;
you fill their hearts with pure gladness,
you help them to prosper, to beautifully grow.

I feel you have decided you will not want me,
because what you never had, you never truly get.
So I will give my purest, unclaimed love instead
to my faithful dog—my undying, supportive pet.
