My Poetry. Alice and the Ghost of Jenny.
Born a child who felt intensely alone,
A girl who could never truly find a friend;
With parents who worked ceaselessly and too hard,
Little Alice was constantly left to defend.

At school, Alice was a natural master,
Brilliant and ahead of her tender age;
Her tutors were always profoundly proud of her mind,
As in her intense studies she would fiercely engage.

But in her home life, she was unbearably lonely;
All she truly had was a friend named Jenny.
She loved her companion so deeply, so much,
And this special friendship did not cost a penny.
Jenny was always faithfully there for her,
When the dark times were tough and intensely hard;
She always knew exactly what needed to be said,
And always produced the necessary winning card.

Alice became profoundly withdrawn and silent,
Her distant parents began to wonder why.
Jenny was the only thing she ever spoke of,
And the raw confusion made her poor mother cry.
All Alice desperately wanted was to be listened to,
But her parents were always tragically away;
Perhaps if they had just stopped and taken some time for her,
She would still be peacefully alive today.

For Jenny finally told Alice her young life should end,
Because being so painfully alone was unhealthy.
The cruel truth is that sometimes having everything in this world
Does not always make someone happy, or truly wealthy.
