When the amber leaves fall and the twilight grows long,
And the wind hums a soft, chilling autumn-time song,
The veil starts to thin between daylight and dread,
As the night belongs fully to shadows and thread.
Jack-o’-lanterns glow bright with a flicker of orange flame,
Guarding cold wooden porches and whispering names.
Shadows dance on the pavement in velvet and black,
While the rustle of dry leaves creeps up at your back.
Costumed ghosts gently float down the dimly lit street,
Echoing laughter with small scampering feet.
Little phantoms and witches with sacks in their hand,
Seeking sweets and enchanted trick-or-treat wonderland.
From the high creaking boughs, a lone owl gives a call,
As the silver moon rises to reign over all.
It’s a night full of magic, a spell sweetly cast,
Where the mysteries bloom and the dark hours fly fast.
So blow out the candle when midnight draws near,
And bid a farewell to the ghost of the year.
For until next autumn when wild spirits sheen,
Happy haunts to you all on this cold Halloween!
