‘Foo aal’s Bennachie? As aals a man?’
Loon-like I wid spear, an leave ma bools
A boorach in the kypie at ma feet
An stan an stare oot ower the darknin laan
Ower parks an ferms, as far’s ma een could see
To the muckle hull aneth the seetin sun.
‘Aaler, laddie, aye, gin Man himself.
Naebody kens the age o Bennachie.’

(Foo Aal’s Bennachie?)

The Romans marched by Don
Herriet the laich countrie;
But heich in their fort on the Mither Tap
The Picts fan sanctuary.
