
Burnfoot is in Scottish Borders. It is a mid 20th century housing estate by origin. New social housing is being built in an effort to improve the area. It is essentially a suburb of Hawick. Local employment includes an industrial estate and knitwear factory.
In this, and similar small towns, people experience more challenging circumstances with higher rates of unemployment, poorer health, lack of a car, lower levels of education and lower social grades than other groups.
